Professor Emeritus, Northern Illinois University
Founder and Director, Dalmatian Rescue of Illinois

Susan Linden received her Ph.D. in French Literature in 1978 from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and taught French and Women’s Studies at Northern Illinois University from 1980-2006.

She brought home her first Dalmatian, “Daisy,” in 1996, and fell in love with the breed. In 1999, she adopted a rescue Dalmatian, and soon afterwards began rescuing Dalmatians on her own. Dalmatian Rescue of Illinois, the organization that she founded, now has a network of volunteers in Illinois and has placed over 375 dogs in new homes.

Susan has done extensive training with her own dogs, and has participated in AKC and UKC Obedience and Agility competition. She continues to further her own education in canine cognition and behavior. In Spring 2010, she completed a course on dogs, The Cognitive Dog, through the Harvard University Extension School. Susan graduated with honors from the  Academy for Dog Trainers in August 2016.
