A senior Dalmatian named Spot came into rescue on March 10, 2012.

A tiny girl, she weighed barely forty pounds and had trouble walking. Her owner had passed away, and she had spent an entire year in a shelter in Arkansas. A small-breed rescue group took her out of the shelter in February. The staff did not know much about Dals, but they loved her and knew she deserved a chance. They contacted Dalmatian rescue groups for help.

Our adopters and volunteers Stephanie and Paul moved recently from Wisconsin to Arkansas. We called on them for help. They drove to pick her up and took her home to foster her.

They took her to the vet and gave her a new name: Frannie. When we inquired two weeks later on how she was doing, Stephanie gave us a report:

“She’s got terrible arthritis and wasn’t really able to walk. We have started some injections to help that… Her physical condition is pretty poor. Hip dysplasia, a congenital elbow problem that doesn’t let it work right, a heart murmur. She is deaf, has cataracts, and a spine thing affecting nerves in her back legs. She’s not really house trained so potties everywhere… and on top of that she has a heart and spirit of gold! She’s a doll and we already love her dearly. We’d love her to stay with us.”

Stephanie and Paul are avid hikers and have always taken their dogs along with them on outings. Frannie is no exception. They have purchased a special dog stroller that allows her to go along everywhere. She loves it!

We thank Stephanie and Paul for taking in this special girl and filling the final years of her life with care and love!

That little pink pillow was the first thing of her own that she got when she entered rescue. She is a girly girl! Thank you to the Dalmatian Rescue of Illinois, and to Stephanie and Paul for giving her a new “leash” on life!

I love that pink pillow! Thank you for giving it to her, and for sending it along to her new home.

God bless you for adopting this girl. Some think taking care of an older dog is hard work….it is……but oh we get so much from it, don’t we? My Jake couldn’t walk for the last bit of his life. I’d take him for walkies, too, in his red radio flyer wagon. Since dogs biggest sense is their smell, he got just as much joy from it as walking along.

My 14 years old Dalmatian also had the same health problems as Frannie. He died on 7th January 2014. I arrived home Penang, Malaysia from my 3 weeks trip to California and saw him lying down on the same spot outside my porch. My family members were out in the porch and when I got out of my car I called out his name PONGO, but my eldest brother told me he had passed away. I missed him dearly and thinks of him every seconds.
